Q1: What is the viscosity range, applicable temperature and compatible fluids of this tester?
-
Viscosity Range
Dynamic viscosity: 1–1000 mPa·s (accuracy ±5%); kinematic viscosity: 1–1000 cSt (accuracy ±5%). It can convert kinematic viscosity at 40℃ / 100℃ with a conversion accuracy of ±5% ~ ±8%, fully complying with international testing standards for lubricants.
-
Temperature Range
Measured fluid temperature: 0℃ ~ 60℃; working ambient temperature for the instrument: 0℃ ~ 50℃; storage temperature: 0℃ ~ 55℃. It works stably in most factory workshops, outdoor construction sites and engine cabins.
Equipped with a 316 stainless steel probe with IP67 protection, the probe resists corrosion under humid and slightly dusty environments.
-
Compatible Fluids
It supports all types of lubricating oil, engine oil and similar lubricant fluids, serving as an ideal portable screening tool for maintenance work in mining, wind power, engineering machinery and power plants.
Q2: Can users download test data saved by the device?
ViscoPen YPV’s current model lacks data storage and download capabilities. Its core design is for real-time field detection: simply submerge the probe in oil, and you can instantly view viscosity, temperature and density values, perfectly fulfilling the primary need for rapid on-site oil status inspection.
We plan to add data storage and export capabilities in subsequent product upgrades, so the device can satisfy various data management requirements later.

Q3: What are the calibration methods? How frequently do I need to calibrate the instrument?
- Two calibration modes are available: self-calibration by customers and factory professional calibration.
- Calibration intervals are determined by the practical working environment. Annual calibration meets the requirements for regular clean workshops. For severe industrial scenarios featuring high temperature and heavy dust (steel plants, mines, cement factories, etc.), semi-annual calibration is mandatory. Such graded calibration guarantees the device’s measuring accuracy stays steady within the tolerance of ±5%.
Q4: What are the charging standards for calibration services?
- Self-calibration: Only material cost of standard calibration oil is charged. We provide graphic operation manuals and online video tutorials for guidance, allowing clients to finish calibration locally without sending devices back to factory, saving logistics and downtime costs.
- Factory complete calibration: Including standard calibration oil and labor service fees from professional engineers. Custom quotation is available based on calibration quantity.
Q5: What is the service life of ViscoPen YPV? How about its battery life?
- The core MEMS sensing probe has a service life of ≥5 years under regular working conditions. Consumables like batteries and outer casings are replaceable.
- Moreover, built-in 3450mAh battery supports continuous operation for more than 36 hours after full charge. It adopts Type-C charging port, which can be charged via power banks, laptops and industrial sockets conveniently for all-day field inspection.
Q6: Does the tester physically measure viscosity at 40℃ and 100℃, or calculate these values indirectly? What is its working principle?
We calculate the 40℃ and 100℃ viscosity values via viscosity-temperature curves once you import the viscosity-temperature model for the corresponding oil type.
The instrument uses proven MEMS sensing technology to quickly measure the real-time viscosity and temperature of fluid samples.
Q7: Why calibrate for specific oil types if the tester can measure multiple oils?
Q8: Can our team finish calibration independently?
Q9: After calibrating for one single oil type, can the tester measure other oils with different viscosity?
- For oils of the same category, you only need to switch to the matched viscosity-temperature curve. After this simple operation, normal accurate measurement can be performed directly.
- For oils of different categories: Measurement accuracy will decline slightly. You may recalibrate for other oil types to restore standard precision.
